Support Services & Worker Rights Manager

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Manager at NICE will be key in providing supervision of staff, implementation and management of key projects and programs, and overall support of member outreach, services, and activities with the immigrant communities we serve. The Manager thinks strategically about community outreach as tools for political development and organizing to engage members and funnel them into active membership and participation at NICE. 

POSITION TYPE

  • Hourly, Non-exempt. 
  • Requires physical presence at the job site(s)
  • Categorized as an essential employee
  • Management, “at-will” employee

SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday: 9am-5pm. Often 1-2 evenings per week and some weekends.

 

DAY-TO-DAY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervision of team members

  • Supervise assigned staff in the execution of outreach and programming
  • Hold team members accountable for daily work, schedules and advancement of program/organizational priorities
  • Implement and manage a thorough evaluation framework for program activities
  • Interact and troubleshoot with staff at NICE for space, technological, and other issues 
  • Assist with overall logistics and ensure all tech, space and other materials needed are on hand
  • Assign and manage work schedules for staff, including time-off requests and time-sheets
  • Assist and coordinate with Administration to ensure policies and procedures are consistently enforced and understood by staff

Program and Project Management

  • Manage a calendar of program activities and events to meet the various needs and opportunities for day laborers and immigrant workers, and their families
  • Ensure documentation and data collection that meets funder requirements and internal evaluation needs
  • Maintain a community/workspace that is flexible for a variety of needs, including group meetings, daily staff work, and welcoming members and other visitors 
  • Support building relationships with other allied organizations and institutions; participate in coalitions meetings, and in key partners meetings.

Strategy and political power

  • Provide strategic input for the enhancement of programs and organizing campaigns
  • Develop relationships with external partners for program and advocacy work
  • Represent the Director of the program as needed in internal and external meetings

Engagement with Membership

  • Participate in and lead membership and organizing meetings
  • Participate in and lead advocacy activities
  • Engage member leaders to volunteer; support and facilitate trainings, and build appropriate relationships with members to encourage their engagement within the organization

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Demonstrated experience hiring and managing a team, working in a union environment preferred
  • Prior experience managing program data; experience using Salesforce preferred
  • Strong social justice analysis along immigration, class/labor, gender, and race
  • Knowledge of the immigrant community
  • Administrative and organizational skills necessary to carry out job description responsibilities
  • High emotional intelligence, engaging with at-risk individuals and maintaining confidentiality
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work effectively with all the organization's stakeholders 
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a diverse, multi-office, team environment
  • Dedication and ability to work flexible hours, on evenings and weekends, as needed, to meet member needs
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Ability to work and collaborate with a predominantly Spanish-speaking community
