SAVE NICE

Call to Action:

SAVE NICE & Day Laborer Centers in NYC!

Watch the Recording of our Press Conference HERE: DAY LABORER CENTERS RISK CLOSING ACROSS 5-BOROUGHS DUE TO NYC BUDGET CRISIS.

As an extension of our Executive Director, Manuel Castro, and CUNY professor Robert C Smith’s Opinion piece in the Gotham Gazette, we call on our allies and volunteers to bring public pressure to NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio to prioritize funds for NICE and community organizations like NICE during this budget cycle which is set to be finalized by June 30,2020.

As NYC experiences a public health and a budget crisis, our organization is in danger of facing devastating budget cuts.

We call on our allies and stakeholders to stand in solidarity with NICE by demanding the city funds the crucial work we’re doing to bring relief and recovery to immigrant communities and to continue the long term work of organizing for dignified work and justice for all workers, regardless of immigration status. The coronavirus pandemic has disproportionately impacted our membership and the communities we serve, we cannot allow for budget cuts to disproportionately impact us as well.

Our organization is part of the city-wide call for a radical restructuring of our city's budget that includes demands for at least a $1 billion cut to the NYPD and the reallocation of such funds for community organizations and programs that center the health and wellbeing of Black and Brown New Yorkers. You can be part of shaping a future were community relief, and recovery, rather than policing is set as a budget priority. Will you help us?

Mayor De Blasio,

As an NYC-resident of [Insert Neighborhood], I’m writing on behalf of our most vulnerable neighbors, the immigrant community of New York City, to call on you to fully fund the work of New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE) and community organizations like NICE who are helping immigrant families recover from the current healthcare and economic crisis that has disproportionately impacted them.  Our city’s budget reflects the priorities and values of our city, and the message New Yorkers are sending is clear: We need less money for policing and more money for community organizations that serve marginalized communities!

I stand in solidarity with NICE and community organizations working for the long term recovery of communities that help our city run. We depend on the health and wellbeing of these essential workers and need a city budget that reflects this. I write to demand the city DEFUND the NYPD’s budget by at least $1 billion and reallocate these funds to community programs and community organizations like NICE.

The coronavirus pandemic has disproportionately impacted immigrant communities, we cannot allow for budget cuts to disproportionately impact them as well.

Respectfully,

[Your Name]
