Position: Education Coordinator

Reports to:  Director of Training and Education

Location: Jackson Heights

Schedule: Full-time (35 hours per week), non-exempt, hourly

Varies depending on training schedule, generally 9-5 with some evenings and weekends

 

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Education Coordinator will work with the Training & Education Director and the team to execute and continue the strategic development of NICE’s Training & Education Program as a key element of our membership’s workforce development, organizing and political engagement; with the intention to create our School for Immigrant Workers, among others.

Reporting directly to the Training & Education Director, the Education Coordinator will oversee the development and execution of education initiatives under the Training & Education Program, such as the English as a Second Language (ESOL) program as well as other Worker Education initiatives developed in strategic partnership with the Director, the Training & Education team and potentially in collaboration with other key program areas. The Education Coordinator will develop the education curriculum for various initiatives and implement the program, as well as recruit, onboard, and coordinate volunteers to support the program. 

The Education Coordinator thinks strategically about Education as a tool for political development, education and organizing to engage members beyond their roles as students and funnel them into active membership and participation at NICE.

When needed, the Education coordinator supports the implementation of other programs and components of the Training & Education Program, rapid-response actions & strategy shifts within the program area and organization.

The qualified candidate is able and willing to work on-site, virtually, and/or during some evenings and weekends, ensuring at all times that activities are conducted professionally, in a culturally-sensitive manner, and consistent with the mission and standards of the organization. We are seeking a highly motivated, high-performing, and organized colleague who is able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative work environment.




DAY-TO-DAY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Management

  • Hold team members accountable for daily work, schedules, and advancement of program/organizational priorities
  • Interact and troubleshoot with staff at NICE and key partners for policy, technological, and other issues 
  • Assist with overall logistics and ensure all tech, space and other materials needed are on hand

Program and Project Management

  • Have regular check-ins with the Director to coordinate and implement the strategy for the program
  • Ensure documentation, data collection, and data security that meets funder requirements and internal evaluation needs
  • Maintain a community/work space that is flexible for a variety of needs, including group meetings, daily staff work, and welcoming members and other visitors 
  • Support building relationships with other allied organizations and institutions; participate in coalitions meetings, and in key partners meetings.

Engagement with Membership

  • Participate in and lead membership meetings
  • Participate in and lead advocacy activities
  • Engage member leaders to volunteer; support and facilitate trainings, and build appropriate relationships with members to encourage their engagement within the organization

Others 

  • Help ensure milestones are met, and deadlines are kept
  • Help prepare, compile, and submit accurate and timely records, files, forms, statistics and additional relevant information in accord with agency policy, licensing, and funding requirements
  • Participate in team and staff meetings
  • Refer members to services internally and/or externally
  • Assist with organizational activities as needed 
  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  •     Strong social justice analysis along immigration, class/labor, gender, and race
  •     Knowledge of the immigrant community.
  •     Experience in health and safety training, educational programs, immigration programs. 
  • Administrative and organizational skills necessary to carry out job description responsibilities
  •   Dedication and ability to work flexible hours, on evenings and weekends, as needed to meet client needs, 
  •     Strong knowledge of computer operations (including but not limited to, Google Apps, Zoom, Microsoft Office, etc.)
  •     Bilingual in Spanish and English
  •     Ability to work and collaborate with a predominantly Spanish-speaking community

 

POSITION TYPE

  • Hourly, Non-exempt. 
  • Requires physical presence at the job site(s)
  • Categorized as an essential employee
  • Union position, represented by ALAA

 

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with experience. Employer-provided medical, dental, vision, vacation, 401(k), transit, and FSA benefits.
