NICE Participates in City Advocacy Day
Joining together with more than 50 other organization and over 1,000 demonstrators, NICE members participated in City Advocacy Day on March 26th. After participating in the march and rally and making new friends along the way NICE members joined coalition partners to met with with representatives from the City Council to discuss the city's budget. Amongst the top needs for NICE members were increased funding for adult ESOL classes and immigrant worker's centers.
Club NICE participates in the World Savvy 2008 Jam Session
Club NICE joined the festivities at the World Savvy Jam Session on April 5th, a day-long interactive workshop with other youth, adult artists and media professionals at LaGuardia Performing Arts Center. Through arts and music, NICE youth explored their identity and interacted with youth from other programs throughout the City.
Local Activists March in El Desfile Hispano de Queens
In Sunday's parade, NICE's Action Committee marched with other local Queens groups, distributing "Know Your Rights" flyers and announcements about NIC's Empowerment Training that afternoon
Despite Summer's Challenges, Immigrants Celebrate Dedication to Civic Empowerment
On Saturday evening, August 18th, residents of Northwest Queens filled the Jackson Heights Diversity Center to celebrate a summer of struggle and empowerment. Even as immigrant communities have suffered the backlash of anti-immigrant sentiment this past summer, more than eighty students made the commitment to participate in NICE’s ESOL Through Civic Literacy Program. The program features a unique eight week curriculum which includes units on immigration and labor rights. In addition to the classes and trainings, students have formed an Action Committee, organizing demonstrations and press conferences to bring strong immigrant voices to the local and national political arenas.

On Saturday, August 5, NICE's Action Committee repainted the office and celebrated with a delicious lunch.
NICE's Summer Advocacy Program
Nice's Action Committee has been working hard outside of the office as well: this summer, working in coalitions with other local organizations, we have attended demonstrations and organized press conferences to make sure our elected officials keep fighting for immigrant rights.
